The Detroit Lions made a major investment in one of their brightest young stars. After Jameson Williams delivered the type of season they had long envisioned, the team rewarded him with a lucrative contract extension right before the start of the 2025 season.

According to Fox Sports insider Jordan Schultz, general manager Brad Holmes secured Williams on a three-year, $83 million contract, with $67 million guaranteed. The agreement was finalized on the eve of Detroit’s opener against the Green Bay Packers.

The new deal comes on the heels of Williams’ breakout 2024 campaign, where he recorded his first 1,000-yard season and found the end zone eight times. Schultz described him as “one of the NFL’s most exciting young receivers” who has now cashed in.

Williams’ Growth in Detroit

Drafted 12th overall in 2022, Williams was viewed as a cornerstone for head coach Dan Campbell’s vision of the Lions’ offense. But his early years were rocky. As a rookie, he managed just a single 41-yard reception on nine targets across six appearances.

His second year brought modest improvement, with 24 catches, 354 yards, and two touchdowns in 12 games. But it wasn’t until 2024 that he truly broke through. That season, the 6’2” receiver hauled in 58 passes for 1,001 yards, scored seven touchdowns, and moved the chains on 41 of those catches.

Williams now finds himself as a vital piece in an already loaded Detroit offense, which features tight end Sam LaPorta and top wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown, who has become a favorite target for quarterback Jared Goff.

Heading into 2025, Williams has been labeled a potential fantasy football breakout candidate. Running back David Montgomery even hinted that the young receiver has only scratched the surface of what he can become.
