Corey Day had an amazing opening 132 laps in his ARCA Menards Series debut at Salem. But on lap 133, a possible top-five run was wiped out in a matter of seconds.
As of lap 133, Day was in third position and chasing Lavar Scott for the second position. As the two rocketed down the backstretch, Day passed Scott, but not before he was clear of his No. 6 car, which sent Day’s No. 28 Chevrolet spinning into the inside wall.
As she entered Turn 3, Toni Breidinger spun and struck Day’s car on the right side. Day would end up in 15th place, and both vehicles would be eliminated from the competition.

Even though his ARCA debut was unfortunately ended by the crash, his steady, top-five run probably attracted some attention. Day has the potential to have a fantastic NASCAR career, even at the young age of 18.
William Sawalich, who started from pole position and led all 200 laps, would win the race. The top five was completed by Christian Rose, Scott, Will Kimmel, and Andres Perez, who finished in second place.
Cody Dennison and Isaac Johnson placed sixth and seventh, respectively, and the remaining three place finishers were Ryan Roulette, Brayton Laster, and Kris Wright. Sawalich’s triumph is his third straight straight win.
At the Elko (MN) Speedway on Saturday, the ARCA Menards Series will resume its dominant role, as NASCAR’s top three series are taking a break for the Olympics.
