Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys gave an explanation of why he feels he owes it to his teammates and other quarterbacks to decide what kind of deal he accepts or declines while negotiations over a contract extension continue.
Prescott stated, “I’m a guy who grew up with two older brothers.” You are aware of the significance of brotherhood—not just for this squad but also for the NFL’s and players’ fraternity.
There is money to be made, and it is possible. It is feasible. Everything can be made to work in both directions. In that way, pushing the boundaries for the next man is always the goal.
Talks between Jerry Jones, the general manager and owner, and Prescott, the wide receiver who missed his tenth training camp day due to a holdout, are still ongoing, Jones said on Friday.
“I would not have a legitimate progress point there at all [with Prescott] and I really don’t have one for Lamb either,” Jones stated. “Plus, it’s not bad. I simply don’t think discussing progress will be beneficial.” Prescott will count $55 million against the salary cap as he approaches the latter year of his four-year, $140 million contract.
At $55 million a season, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love has surpassed Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow and Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence as the highest-paid quarterbacks since the start of training camp.
This week marked Prescott’s 31st birthday. Lawrence is 25, Love is 26, and Burrow is 28. Prescott will be free to sign free agency in March if the Cowboys decide not to extend his contract following the season, since he will not be eligible to use the franchise tag.
The Cowboys’ 2025 salary cap will be reduced by about $40 million if Prescott goes with another team, and the team will have to look elsewhere for a starting quarterback.
Although Prescott stated he would not participate in contract negotiations once training camp began, Todd France, his agent, is still able to speak with the club.
“I’ve never truly cared about the number whether it was the first time in the franchise tag and the negotiations or now,” Prescott stated.
“That’s why I said I have an agent that I’m confident in and a front office that we can figure out something for both of us that makes sense.”
Just like in earlier talks, Prescott has not felt pressured. After practice on Friday, he spent time cradling his newborn daughter, MJ. “I’ve never forgotten about football so quickly after being so engrossed in it.
That is the equilibrium I require, as it enables me to concentrate even more on my goals and obligations when I’m straddling the lines. Being aware of my audience, not just myself, is why I’m doing it. It’s been fantastic.
After nine years of doing what I love and being able to incorporate that aspect, I genuinely feel younger than I have in a long time.”
To begin the week, Lamb texted Prescott to wish him a happy birthday, sparking a dialogue between the quarterback and the All-Pro wide out.
“I know he told me he was eager to return, that he was prepared to return, and that he was hopeful things would work out for him. I’m sure of it too,” Prescott remarked.
“Hopefully, he’ll return to us as soon as possible. However, I am aware that he is working hard and is eager to return to his job.”
