It appears that head coach Mike McCarthy has cursed one of his best players. There will always be attention focused on the Dallas Cowboys.

That’s what happens when you have a vocal owner like Jerry Jones and are America’s Team.

The organization believes in the talent they already have on the roster, so they weren’t aggressive in trying to add more during the offseason.

One of the team’s rising stars was hurt at practice on Friday, just hours after Mike McCarthy made comments about him.

Luke Schoonmaker was spotted heading to the locker room in the Cowboys news.

The Dallas Morning News’ David Moore reports that tight end Luke Schoonmaker was observed leaving the practice field and making his way to the locker room.

This was somewhat amusing because, prior to practice, McCarthy had mentioned how nice Schoonmaker was having and that all he needed to do was stay healthy.

He’s injured now, and some fans believe the head coach may have cursed the rookie wide receiver.

Although Jake Ferguson, a Michigan product, is about to enter his second season with the team, McCarthy has high expectations for him and has dubbed him the “poster child” for a second-year jump.

It looks like Schoonmaker is making progress, but now he has another obstacle to overcome. He struggled with plantar fasciitis as a rookie and had shoulder surgery over the offseason.

He missed OTAs due to a hamstring ailment as well. His current injury is preventing him from getting as many reps as he would like.

The 25-year-old had eight receptions for 65 yards and two touchdowns in 2023 on 15 targets. Ferguson is the team’s top tight end, and Schoonmaker’s time may be running out given the addition of Brevyn Spann-Ford as an undrafted free agent.

Given that Schoonmaker is coping with another injury, McCarthy would have been better off keeping quiet about the tight end’s condition in retrospect.
