The Dallas Cowboys and three of their finest players are engaged in intense contract negotiations at the moment.
Linebacker Micah Parsons, quarterback Dak Prescott, and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb all aspire to be the highest paid players in their respective positions.
Naturally, that poses a challenge for the Cowboys. The San Francisco 49ers are discovering the hard way that it is extremely difficult to afford several elite players as they work through their own contract negotiations with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
Jerry Jones, the owner of the Cowboys, caused a stir recently when he stated that reaching a resolution with Lamb was “urgent.”
The All-Pro wide receiver is obviously not happy with the way things are going, as evidenced by the removal of “America’s Team” from his social media biography. Naturally, Lamb is refusing to travel to training camp while his contract is being negotiated. Conversely, Prescott is present but also motivated to close his deal.
Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott Wants to Reset the Market
While Prescott and the Cowboys have been in negotiations for a new contract for some time, the asking price of Dallas’ most valuable player has increased as a result of other quarterbacks in the NFL agreeing to large deals with their teams.
Jordan Love earns $55 million, Trevor Lawrence $55 million, Tua Tagovailoa $53.1 million, and Jared Goff $53 million per season. Prescott is predicted to earn more than each of these players combined, but it won’t be as simple as giving him $56 million a year and calling it a day.
Dallas is hoping to sign Prescott to a long-term contract that would keep him with the team for the remainder of his playing days. Conversely, Prescott desires a shorter contract in order to qualify for a larger raise down the road.

Cowboys COO Stephen Jones stated, “We’ve got a challenging situation,” during an appearance on “The Doomsday Pod.” Although having one of the finest quarterbacks in the league and two of the best non-quarterback players in the game in Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb makes for a fantastic situation, it can be difficult to manage. “It’s a negotiation that we’re having to work hard at,” he went on.
Ultimately, you want to include a few more players [on the field]. You can’t just walk out and play the game by yourself, those three guys. We’ll keep working on it. Indeed, one can understand Jones’ perspective. To go along with their stars, they would like to be able to afford good players.
However, should they fail to compensate them for their worth, they will be left without any stars to shine. This might mean that one or two of them sign free agents, but that’s just how the NFL does business. They should choose to extend the contract of the quarterback if they have to choose between him and a wide receiver or a linebacker.
