Connor Galvin, an offensive lineman with the Detroit Lions, is the most recent player to miss his 2024 season due to injury.
The offensive line of the Detroit Lions reserves is still suffering a great deal. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported that offensive tackle Connor Galvin had damaged his MCL on Thursday night, necessitating season-ending surgery.
In the second half of the Lions’ preseason game against the New York Giants, Galvin was rolled up. He was taken off since he was unable to bear any weight on his leg.
The Lions’ backup offensive lineman have already lost two games due to injuries since his injury. Netane Muti was placed on injured reserve after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury earlier in training camp.
In addition, Kevin Zeitler has missed some time, rookie Christian Mahogany is still listed as not playing football, and Kayode Awosika has returned after missing a few practices. Galvin was competing with players like Dan Skipper and Colby Sorsdal for a reserve offensive tackle spot in Detroit.
Sadly, Galvin wasn’t the only injury sustained in the first preseason game. David Bada, a defensive tackle, may have had a permanent achilles damage, according to head coach Dan Campbell.
Concussions were sustained by receiver Antoine Green and quarterback Hendon Hooker. James Houston, the edge defender, is dealing with a bone bruise in his knee, Morice Norris, the safety, has a hamstring injury, and Nate Lynn, the defensive end, was taken out due to a shoulder injury.
Though Campbell said it’s difficult to determine with concussions, the Lions head coach only classified the ailments to Bada and Galvin as “long-term.” On Sunday, the Lions return to practice. By then, we should have more information regarding the remaining injuries.
