Three days prior, Dallas Cowboys general manager and owner Jerry Jones stated that there was no rush to sign All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to a contract extension.

However, Jones took a different stance on Sunday. “At this point, I really get the anxiety that arises when someone inquires about whether or not you are missed. Alright, CeeDee, you’re missed.

Before the Cowboys’ preseason matchup with the Los Angeles Rams, Jones stated on the pregame show. “But you’re not missed out here competing and it doesn’t put any pressure any place on us.”

When asked at the time if he felt pressure to sign Lamb, Jones politely declined. “I don’t know why I said it,” Jones said on Thursday.

“I don’t know. I don’t have a sense of urgency about getting it done. Put any reason you want. I was at Nobu two days ago. Give that as the reason. Whatever you want to put out there.” Jones’ initial remarks caused a stir and even got Lamb to “lol” on X.

Lamb and the Cowboys have been negotiating an extension that would place him among the highest paid wide receivers in the National Football League.

Justin Jefferson became the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL when he signed a four-year, $140 million contract with the Minnesota Vikings.

Lamb could be penalized about $1 million in addition to $40,000 in daily fines since he will miss the Rams’ preseason game. But because Lamb is still in his rookie contract, the organization has the last say over all sanctions, which may be waived.

Even though Elliott was not going to play in the preseason, Jones made fun of him after a 2019 preseason game against the Rams, saying, “Zeke who?” following a strong performance by then-rookie running back Tony Pollard.

Elliott signed a six-year, $90 million contract extension the week before the season, which guaranteed him $50 million. However, by missing the team’s mandatory June minicamp and voluntary offseason program, Lamb lost out on valuable practice time with Dak Prescott.

The Cowboys open the regular season on September 8 at the Cleveland Browns.
