The contentious win of Austin Dillon has raised a lot of issues. Both supporters and detractors are debating whether it was truly appropriate to declare this a victory for Dillon.
Although he won his first race in two years, the No. 3 RCR driver had to forfeit hearts in the process. While some consider this to be a just victory, many are concerned about the consequences of ignoring such an act.
As a result of his team radio, Austin Dillon made the conscious decision to intentionally damage Joey Logano’s vehicle at the Richmond Raceway.
Denny Hamlin was right behind him at that moment, trying to seize the chance presented by the incident. Dillon, however, had other ideas and chose to also crash the JGR vehicle.

The co-hosts of Dale Jr. Download’s 567th episode talked about Austin Dillon’s accidents when he was making his way to the start/finish line and responded to the highly contentious NASCAR Cup race finish at Richmond.
As he noted, Junior claimed that the sport had experienced some significant changes over time. “The drivers respond “Yes, sir” to an authoritative figure who, I’m not sure about, speaks in the garage. Indeed. Man, you got it. Helton was that way about him; no one bothered him.
Regarding the current situation, he remarked, “It’s definitely holding hands now.”With Dillon’s triumph, he feels that something ought to have been done, saying, “The drivers are coddled, and NASCAR doesn’t really hammer in these moments.
“Dale Earnhardt Jr. is concerned about the future of the sport since the race authorities granted Dillon the win right away without taking into account the need for any sort of punishment.
Junior further expressed his worries, saying, “I worry that the drivers won’t be corralled when we go to the next drivers’ meeting or we have a situation where they need to be.”
Who is to stop other drivers at the rear of the grid in terms of points from trying to do the same if NASCAR has allowed this act to go unpunished? “Even if somebody does say, ‘Guys, we’ve got to tone it down,’ I don’t feel like a driver would think twice, saying, ‘Whatever, I saw what happened last week,'” he continued, making his point further.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. also mentioned a period in the past, from the days of Michael Waltrip Racing.Junior remarked, “I think NASCAR is very scared of what happened in the past,” bringing up the memory of Martin Truex being substituted for Jeff Gordon in the playoffs.
The head of JR Motorsports claims that the authorities are attempting to prevent the controversy that the incident caused. Earnhardt Jr. stated that there was a chance NASCAR might have made the proper choice, but it’s too late for that at this point.
How could NASCAR have done justice at the Richmond Raceway?
As of right now, NASCAR has proclaimed Austin Dillon the winner of the race; this was their snap decision. Even after the two drivers wrecked the race, the RCR driver received no citation or penalty. Dale Earnhardt Jr. stated that NASCAR would have needed to take action as soon as the race was done if they had truly wanted to address the matter. It was a bit late to reverse NASCAR’s judgment since giving Dillon the victory would have just heightened the debate.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. acknowledged on the podcast that he thought Dillon’s actions were “bad.” He clarified, “They had a chance to fix all that if they made the call at the race,” but he understands that NASCAR will eventually make the final judgment. If you had taken the decision, [NASCAR] had the opportunity to save a company.”
