Brandon Aiyuk and the San Francisco 49ers reached an agreement on Thursday afternoon to extend his contract for four years and $120 million, keeping him under contract until 2028.
The 49ers have officially fixed a critical issue that threatened to jeopardize their prospects of capturing their first Super Bowl title since 1994.
The Dallas Cowboys, one of their major historical opponents, haven’t won a championship since 1995, and they’re in considerably worse situation, with quarterback Dak Prescott and pass rusher Micah Parsons set to sign massive contracts.
They also have some serious roster voids and made only a few acquisitions this offseason, prompting Skip Bayless, a well-known Cowboys fan, to criticize his team for not spending nearly as much money as the Niners in order to compete for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
The Cowboys made significant progress a few days ago by signing outstanding wideout CeeDee Lamb to a four-year contract extension worth $136 million. But the Prescott scenario is causing a lot of anxiety for Cowboys fans.
It appears like he will not be extended before the start of the season, and while he is unlikely to hold out, there is a good chance that this will be his final year in Dallas. Meanwhile, the team has a weak running back group, no real WR2 behind Lamb, and a dubious offensive line.
They also need some help in the secondary after standout cornerback DaRon Bland sustained a stress fracture that will sideline him for at least four games.
