Mike McCarthy batted down concerns over his contract, saying it “doesn’t matter” as the Dallas Cowboys prepare for their Week 1 game against the Cleveland Browns.

McCarthy is entering the final year of his contract with the Cowboys, which might leave him as a lame duck head coach. Despite the uncertainty, McCarthy remains focused on the present and does not advocate for an immediate settlement.

“I truly don’t want to speak about it. about Monday, McCarthy stated, “I haven’t spoken on it because there’s really nothing to talk about. It doesn’t matter.” “The only thing that matters is now. And that’s something we can all relate to, because while we have obligations other than winning games, the only thing that truly pays the bills is winning games.

And that is where my mind is right now.” McCarthy has had three consecutive 12-win seasons with Dallas. However, if he wants to stick around, he must perform well in the postseason. Despite their regular-season prowess, the Cowboys have only won one postseason game under McCarthy.

McCarthy’s comments came amid speculation that Bill Belichick could be his replacement.According to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, the Cowboys represent a “obvious connection.”

“The Cowboys still have one of the most talented rosters in the NFL, and owner Jerry Jones isn’t afraid to go star-chasing,” Howe told reporters. “If Jones believes Belichick would give his ready-made contender the best chance to end a three-decade Super Bowl drought, it could be the perfect fit for both sides.”

For the time being, McCarthy and the Cowboys will concentrate on the upcoming game against the Browns on Sunday.
