According to Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, quarterback Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys have reached an agreement on a hefty four-year deal extension.
Prescott will get a maximum payout of $240 million from the extension over the following four years ($60 million annually), with $231 million in guaranteed funds. In the opening week of the 2024 NFL season, Prescott and the Cowboys have essentially reset the quarterback market.
Throughout the offseason, one of the main concerns for the Cowboys and the NFL in general has been Prescott’s long-term status. In 2023, he led the Cowboys’ scoring attack and set league records for both passing touchdowns and points scored. Additionally, he was the NFL’s second-most efficient quarterback.
Since the Cowboys selected Prescott in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL draft, the 31-year-old has been a thorn in the side of the New York Giants. Some thought the Giants may view him as a viable option if they needed a quarterback after the 2024 season. Rather, Prescott will play for the Cowboys through 2028, the year he turns 35.
