Just hours before the season kicks off, on Sunday morning, word leaked out that quarterback Dak Prescott will finally be signing a new contract deal with the Dallas Cowboys.

Prescott’s current contract clearly outpaces his previous one, which was the richest in the franchise’s history. Furthermore, Dak Prescott currently holds the record for the highest salary of any NFL player.

One of the main plots of this offseason and the previous one was whether or not the Cowboys would pay Prescott again. The team did not pay wide receiver CeeDee Lamb until the very last minute, in addition to him.

Lamb was granted a $136 million, four-year deal on his own. In almost every measurable area, Prescott is expected to conclude his career as the Dallas Cowboys franchise leader.

It seems sense that, after everything is said and done, his name will be at the top of the franchise record books in the majority of categories given the new contract that has been put in place.

Much has (as is the case with Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks) been made about Prescott’s lack of playoff success. In eight seasons under center he has helped the Cowboys reach the postseason five different times.

BREAKING: Dak Prescott has signed a new 4-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys worth $240 million

Prescott-led teams have reached the Divisional Round on three occasions although only twice after playoff wins as the team had a first-round bye during his rookie season.

He will undoubtedly have time to help the Cowboys break their current drought as a team and, ideally, emerge from the shadow that hangs over all they do. Now that CeeDee Lamb has been addressed and acknowledged, the passing game’s future is secure.
