The Dallas Cowboys suffered a humiliating loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, and while they have many detractors, none seem to enjoy their misfortune more than ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith.
During Monday’s episode of ESPN’s “First Take,” Smith was eager to rub salt into the wounds of Cowboys fans following their 44-19 defeat. Before criticizing their defense later in the show, Smith introduced a new nickname for the Cowboys that their fans likely wouldn’t appreciate.
He dubbed them the “Allas Cowboys” due to their lackluster defensive effort.
“Howdy,” Smith said with a smirk at the start of the show. “How’s your Monday going? You know Shay Shay (Shannon Sharpe)… Let me tell you something. I just pulled out a map and someone told me there’s a city in Texas called Allas, Texas. Allas, Texas. I said, ‘Where’s that? I’ve never heard of it.’
“Then I saw it at AT&T Stadium yesterday,” Smith added. “All you have to do is remove the D from Dallas, and there you have it. The Allas Cowboys. The Allas Cowboys—no D at all!”
Though harsh, the Cowboys were overwhelmed by the Saints from the start. New Orleans scored touchdowns on their first six possessions, and Dallas’ defense only made a play late in the fourth quarter when they were already trailing by 22 points.
Saints quarterback Derek Carr completed 11 of 16 passes for 243 yards, adding two passing touchdowns and one rushing score. The Saints also dominated on the ground.
Alvin Kamara recorded 20 carries for 115 yards and three touchdowns, with the team totaling 190 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
The Cowboys have now dropped two straight home games, going back to last season’s 48-32 wild-card loss to the Green Bay Packers. Their next challenge is a visit from the Baltimore Ravens, which could make it tough to snap their losing streak.
