The Ramblers, who are 3-0 on the season and ranked ninth in Division 7, will host the Roscommon Bucks on Friday, September 20th. This will be the fifth meeting between the Ramblers and their Highland Conference rivals, Beal City, on September 25. The Detroit Lions have named Pat Maloney of McBain High School the Week 3 recipient of the 2024 High School Football Coach of the Week Program.
After serving as McBain’s head coach for ten seasons, Maloney is currently in his 23rd season of coaching high school football. His record there is 62 wins and 35 loses (63.9%). In eight of the nine complete seasons he has led the Ramblers to the postseason, and in 2015 and 2023, he led the team to the regional finals.
He previously spent three years as an assistant at Sault Area High School and ten years as the head coach of Rudyard High School (2002–2011). Maloney, a 2015 graduate of McBain, is currently a math teacher at McBain Rural Agricultural School/High School.
Coach Maloney was recently interviewed by Detroit Lions Football Education on his team’s victory over Beal City in week three, the importance of community service for McBain student-athletes, and the importance of the McBain community to him. He found out during the interview that he had been chosen for Head Coach Hangout’s Coach of the Week.
Throughout the 2024 high school football season, a coach that prioritizes player development, character development, and health and safety will be recognized each week for their achievements on and off the field. A group of high school football media members make the decision.
The Detroit Lions and the NFL Foundation have donated $12,000 to support high school football in Michigan this season.
A $1,000 grant will be given to the winning coach’s school’s football team. One coach will receive a $3,000 donation and the title of High School Football Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the season. A certificate that has been signed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell will also be given to each winner.
The Detroit Lions High School Coach of the Week program, which is in its 28th year, has given Michigan high school football teams contributions totaling $503,000.
