The Detroit Lions (3-1) handed the Seattle Seahawks (3-1) their first loss of the season in the final game of Week 4 on Monday Night Football with a commanding 42-29 win.
Detroit maintained control throughout, with an offense that consistently answered back whenever Seattle tried to close the gap. The Seahawks got as close as seven points in the third quarter.
After halftime, both teams traded touchdowns on the first five drives of the second half. However, Detroit’s offense stayed relentless, led by a historic performance from quarterback Jared Goff.
Goff made history on Monday night, completing all 18 of his passes, setting an NFL record for the most completions without an incompletion in a single game, according to ESPN’s Field Yates. Goff threw for 292 yards, two touchdowns, and even caught a seven-yard touchdown pass from Amon-Ra St. Brown in the third quarter, pushing the lead to 28-14.

With a performance like that, one would expect Goff to earn the game ball, typically given by head coaches after a win. However, Lions’ head coach Dan Campbell had other ideas.
In his postgame press conference, Campbell admitted he mistakenly gave the game ball to someone else.
“Well, I just gave the game ball to somebody else—so I feel awful right now,” Campbell said with a laugh, which was echoed by the reporters. “I knew he played a heck of a game. I didn’t realize he was perfect. I didn’t know he went 18-for-18. But I knew he played great; you could feel it.”
Campbell later revealed he gave the game ball to Jameson Williams and Kerby Joseph. Williams had two receptions for 80 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown from Goff that stretched Detroit’s lead to 15 points. Meanwhile, Joseph secured the win with an interception in the end zone against Seattle’s Geno Smith.
