FOX 2 DETROIT – The Lions’ victory over the Seahawks on Monday Night Football and the touchdown throw that quarterback Jared Goff caught and raced into the end zone are still hot topics of conversation.
In celebration of the brilliant play, Goff threw the football into the stands, landing it squarely in front of a Detroit firefighter.
Alex Vadasy stated, “It just came right to me, and I just (up) and grabbed it.”
Vadasy, a season ticket holder who just so happened to be in the right seat at the right time, has been a Detroit firefighter for the last ten years.
“All of a sudden I see Amon-Ra St. Brown stops moving and turns around (I’m) like, they are not going to throw the ball, and they did,” Vadasy explained.
Then Golf flung the ball into the seats as the stadium roared.
“No one else around me saw it, and I grabbed the ball,” Alex explained. “And I turned to face my two station coworkers, telling them, ‘I got it.'” ‘Caught what?’ they exclaimed.
According to NFL regulations, players who toss the ball into the stands will be fined almost $7,000.
Alex immediately learned that the Lions desired to reclaim the football.
“Ten minutes after we were done hooting and hollering, a team representative came and they wanted the ball back, and they said they would exchange it,” Vadasy recounted. “And I was like, ‘Okay, well, maybe I will get something good, you know, something sweet.'”
Fox 2: “Okay, Alex, did you give the ball back?”
“If that had been me, or a similar game, I would have caught that ball for my first NFL touchdown. We made the decision because I would like the ball returned,” he stated.
The Lions will give him a replacement ball, according to Alex.
