A few months ago, when the Haason Reddick situation unfolded with the New York Jets, many believed he was responsible for the fallout.

By early October, however, it’s becoming clear that the Jets’ front office may have made another poor decision.

Although Reddick stated he would play under his current contract, the Jets knew he expected to be paid soon.

Their choice not to extend him has raised questions and will remain so until he’s either traded or plays in New York again.

As Week 5 approaches, with no sign of him returning, it’s increasingly unlikely that Reddick will suit up this season. At this point, the blame falls squarely on Joe Douglas.

Douglas could continue to delay a trade, but without Reddick, the defense is performing below expectations.

They might secure a deal before the deadline, yet Douglas has indicated he doesn’t intend to trade him.

Despite that stance, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report considers Reddick the top trade candidate.

Knox highlighted teams interested in the Pro Bowl pass-rusher, including the Detroit Lions as a potential fit.

“To keep it simple, Haason Reddick, who has recorded double-digit sacks in the last four seasons, is a top-tier player and will remain at the top of the market as long as he sits out.

The 30-year-old excels at one of football’s most valued positions. Detroit, needing a high-level complement to Aidan Hutchinson, could benefit from Reddick’s addition to strengthen a defense that struggled against Seattle in Week 4.”

If Reddick were to join the Lions and succeed, it wouldn’t be shocking. Detroit is chasing Super Bowl hopes, but their defense has been inconsistent.

Adding someone like Reddick could change that.

Ultimately, it’s a tough situation, but the Jets hold the key, and they haven’t acted.
