Browns ‘Sensitive’ wide receiver reacts to trade rumors about the Dallas Cowboys ex-Amari Cooper, saying, ‘Not Aware!’ Amari Cooper is introspective and perceptive. Perhaps even more than playing football, he enjoys playing chess. Some traditional instructors could argue that he is “too smart for his own good.” Thus, when the former wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys asserts that he is totally oblivious to the trade rumors circulating about him? I’ve seen him too often, talked to him too much, given him too many compliments and criticisms, and visited him too often for me to trust him.
With the Amari Roller-Coaster heavily involved, the 1-3 Browns have struggled offensively through four games, failing to score more than 20 points. After recording a career-high 1,250 receiving yards in 2023, Cooper, the receiver, has had a very dismal start to the season. Cooper, who is in the last year of his deal, has been the focus of trade rumors despite just having 148 receiving yards after four games. Cooper responded to a question regarding the reports on Thursday in a way that some are seeing as “candid.”
Cooper answered, “No, I’m not aware of that. “Usually if I don’t have a good game, I try to keep off of social media. One thing I’ve discovered is that, even if I can be really sensitive in my play, there’s no way to hide that on social media alone. I haven’t seen any of it, so no.”
Tucked into the paragraph is a brazen falsehood. There’s also a profound truth concealed there. I know an Amari who is acutely conscious of his environment. He clearly knows that Cleveland changed his deal this week ($20 million for one last year in 2024) in a way that would make his next team more amenable to a trade dump. He’s undoubtedly aware that some in Cowboys Nation believe Dallas, the team that traded him away to Cleveland two years ago, ought to give him a second chance.
