With Brandin Cooks out for at least the next four weeks, the Dallas Cowboys may use a No. 2 wide receiver in addition to CeeDee Lamb. After a wild 3-2 start, it is obvious that quarterback Dak Prescott and the passing game will have to carry the Cowboys offense, if not the entire team, for the majority of the remaining games of the season. Over the first five weeks of the season, Dallas has battled immensely to stop the run as well as run the football. Prescott and Lamb took advantage of this by signing new contracts that would pay them a combined $376 million this offseason.
Nevertheless, Prescott and Lamb are unable to complete the task alone. On Wednesday, October 9, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox wrote a trade proposal that would have seen Dallas acquire wide receiver Tee Higgins from the Cincinnati Bengals before the NFL’s November 5 trading deadline.
“Higgins is a high-end No. 2 receiver who should draw a fair return, even in a market that could be flooded with receiver talent,” Knox stated. “With a much-needed victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night, Dallas may have saved its season, but they still need a reliable outside player to complement CeeDee Lamb. After a knee treatment, Brandin Cooks was recently placed on injured reserve.” When Higgins and the Bengals could not agree on a contract extension, he asked to be traded out of Cincinnati during the offseason. In response, Cincinnati decided to pay Higgins $22 million to remain on the roster through 2024 by using the franchise tag.
During his first four years in the NFL, Higgins had two 1,000-yard seasons. He has accumulated 275 receptions for 3,866 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns.
