The Detroit Lions have started the 2024 NFL season as expected and more; after five weeks, they have gone 3-1 under fourth-year head coach Dan Campbell and are currently second in the NFC North behind the surprising 5-0 Minnesota Vikings. Detroit has been one of the better run-stoppers early in the season, giving up just 90.8 yards per game on the ground; however, their passing defense may be a cause for concern, as they rank just 27th in passing yards allowed (258.3 yards per game), and they have only totaled 11 sacks this season, with Pro Bowler Aidan Hutchinson accounting for 6.5 of those total.However, a trade suggestion from former general manager of the Minnesota Vikings Jeff Diamond would strengthen Detroit is passing defense.
According to a 33rd Team piece, Diamond predicts that former All-Pro and New York Jets pass rusher Haason Reddick will sign with the Lions. Additionally, he thinks Detroit will only have to pay a late-round pick to acquire the outstanding player from the Philadelphia Eagles. “A better pass rush will help the young corners, like first-rounder Terrion Arnold,” Diamond stated. “They are missing a third-round pick in next year’s draft, but it may only take [Detroit] a fourth or fifth-rounder to get Reddick from the Jets, who probably want to rid themselves of his Reddick would probably need to be extended before the Lions could sign him in order for him to play. As he waits for an extension, Reddick, who is in the final year of a three-year, $45 million contract, has not played a single snap for New York since being acquired during the offseason. Reddick would be a nice sight for the Detroit supporters as defensive end Marcus Davenport, who signed with the Lions during the offseason, will probably sidelined for the season. Reddick has accumulated 410 total tackles and 58 sacks in seven NFL seasons, including stints with the Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers, and Eagles.
