Jerry Jones Makes Strong Statement on Mike McCarthy’s Job After Crushing Loss to Lions

Jerry Jones was asked if there would be coaching changes following the Cowboys’ 47–9 defeat by the Lions.

The Dallas Cowboys’ struggles were fully evident on Sunday as they were routed on their home turf by the Detroit Lions, 47–9.

Jerry Jones, celebrating his 82nd birthday, watched the game from his usual suite at AT&T Stadium. However, the 38-point blowout left little to celebrate.

After the game, reporters questioned Jones about the loss and potential coaching changes. He firmly stated that no changes were being considered.

“I’m not considering that,” Jones said, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic.

Despite fan frustration with head coach Mike McCarthy’s performance, Jones doesn’t believe altering the coaching staff will fix the season.

He did acknowledge his disappointment, calling the defeat both “humbling” and “concerning.”

McCarthy is in his fifth season coaching the Cowboys. Through six games, Dallas stands at 3-3, marking their worst start since McCarthy’s first year in 2020.

Despite the struggles, Jones implied that McCarthy, along with offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, both in their first year, were safe from being replaced.

With a bye week ahead, Dallas’s coaches will focus on adjustments to get back on track. For now, Jones hasn’t lost faith in them.
