The Detroit Lions are thriving after securing their fifth win of the 2024 season against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 7, but concerns remain.
The main issue is along the edge, where the Lions lost both Aidan Hutchinson and Marcus Davenport for the season. While there’s hope Hutchinson could return by the Super Bowl, the Lions need to make it there first.
To bolster their defense, Nick Villano of FanSided suggests a trade between the Lions and the New England Patriots to acquire underrated edge rusher Keion White.
White, a 2023 second-round pick, has four sacks in six games. The Patriots won’t give him up easily, but at 6’5″ and 285 lbs., he fits the Lions’ needs perfectly. White could fill in for Hutchinson now and complement him when he returns, whether that’s in the playoffs or next season.
White is quietly having a strong year, with 22 pressures and four sacks in six games, surpassing last season’s stats. He also provides a cost-effective, multi-year option, which is crucial since the Lions invested heavily in core players and might need a replacement for Davenport next year.
However, it’s unlikely the Patriots will part with White. Despite their 1-6 record, they are rebuilding, and a young, talented, and affordable edge rusher like White is a valuable asset.
Detroit’s GM Brad Holmes would likely be interested in White if available, but it would take a significant offer to pry him away from New England.
