The Detroit Lions are actively seeking a replacement for Aidan Hutchinson, who is out for the season with a broken tibia, as the NFL’s November 5 trade deadline approaches. While fans might dream of acquiring high-profile players like Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders, a more realistic and solid option could be available instead.
Analysts are suggesting that the Lions should pursue a pass-rusher who has been performing well recently.
Detroit Lions ‘Should Be Interested’ in Promising Pass-Rusher In an October 23 article titled “2024 NFL Trade Block Big Board Entering Week 8,” Bleacher Report writer Kristopher Knox identifies New York Giants pass-rusher Azeez Ojulari as the top trade target. He also names the Lions as a potential interested party.
“Giants pass-rusher Azeez Ojulari remains in our top spot for the second week in a row,” Knox remarked. “New York might look to bolster its offensive line to better support quarterback Daniel Jones before the offseason. However, with a 2-5 record, the Giants may consider trading impending free agents like Ojulari.”
Knox emphasized that “Detroit should be keen on acquiring Ojulari before the trade deadline.”
Other notable pass-rushers on Knox’s radar for Detroit include Chase Young from the New Orleans Saints and Za’Darius Smith from the Cleveland Browns.
Bleacher Report’s recent scouting report, released on October 21, also highlighted Ojulari as the top immediate trade target for the Lions.
The Right Aidan Hutchinson Replacement Could Bring the Detroit Lions Their ‘First NFL Championship Since 1957’ In an October 23 piece for Athlon Sports, NFL analyst Doug Farrar also cited Ojulari as a viable replacement for Hutchinson.
“Ojulari may not rely on power moves due to his size, but he possesses a diverse range of techniques to create the space he needs,” he explained. “He reads gaps like a running back and has exceptional quickness to those openings. Ojulari also uses his hands effectively against blockers, allowing him to penetrate the pocket.”
Farrar pointed out, “His speed makes him a potentially valuable addition, as he can reach the quarterback without much schematic assistance.”
He even suggested that adding the right pass-rusher could propel the Lions toward a championship.
“If the Lions secure the right pass rusher now, and Hutchinson can return for a potential Super Bowl appearance, this team could be on the verge of its first NFL championship since 1957,” he noted.
