A report by Janet Oravetz from 9News states that Josh Reynolds, a former Detroit Lions and current Denver Broncos wide receiver, was injured in a shooting early Friday morning in Denver.
The incident happened after Reynolds and another man were reportedly followed from a strip club.
The shooting occurred just after 3 a.m. on October 18, near East Hampden Avenue and South Dahlia Street.
A 911 caller, driving a blue Ford Bronco, reported being shot but stopped responding, indicating they were fleeing. Two more 911 calls followed, with one identifying Reynolds as a victim.
Court documents reveal Reynolds was shot twice—once in the left arm and once in the back of his head—while another man was shot in the back. A third person was injured by shattered glass. All victims suffered scrapes from climbing a fence to escape.
The group had been at Shotgun Willies, a Glendale strip club, leaving around 2:45 a.m. They noticed they were being followed by two cars, and shots were fired. The suspects pursued them onto the highway, where their vehicle was disabled, forcing them to flee on foot.
Denver police arrested two men, Burr Charlesworth and Luis Mendoza, for the shooting. Footage reportedly shows Mendoza following Reynolds and his group from the club.
Reynolds, currently on injured reserve with a broken finger, did not travel with the Broncos to New Orleans. No updates on his recovery from the shooting have been released.
Though shocking due to Reynolds’ NFL status, there were no fatalities, and the suspects have been apprehended.
