There’s still hope for the Detroit Lions to make a deal for Maxx Crosby, according to a former NFL player and current broadcaster.
While fan favorite Maxx Crosby has expressed his desire to stay with the Las Vegas Raiders, there’s a clearer path to the Super Bowl if he joined the Lions. A former NFL player and broadcaster suggests that there’s still potential for Crosby to come to Detroit.
Crosby, a Michigan native from Lapeer who played at Eastern Michigan, would be an ideal fit to replace Aidan Hutchinson, who is out due to a broken tibia. Crosby has already recorded 6.5 sacks this season, adding to his appeal.
Former NFL Player T.J. Lang Believes Maxx Crosby-to-Lions Door Isn’t Shut
T.J. Lang, former Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers player, says the idea of Crosby joining Detroit isn’t entirely off the table.
“I don’t think it’s lost on Maxx Crosby to look at the season and say, ‘We’re going nowhere,’ and if the right fit is there, can we make it?” Lang commented on 97.1 The Ticket, per Sports Illustrated. “I’m not saying it’s going to happen. But I don’t think the door’s completely shut.”
Lang believes Crosby might be “open to a trade” without necessarily requesting one.
“I don’t think that hope is lost that Maxx Crosby would be open to a trade,” Lang stated. “But I’m not saying the Lions are definitely going to get him.”
Crosby ‘Ideal’ for Detroit Lions, Analyst Says
In a USA Today feature on October 25, NFL analyst Jacob Camenker named potential destinations for top NFL players, including Crosby.
“The Lions would be a perfect landing spot for Crosby,” Camenker wrote. “With Aidan Hutchinson sidelined by a season-ending leg injury, Crosby would provide a comparable impact, akin to the No. 2 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, who led the NFL in sacks at his injury.”
Camenker also cited Crosby’s Michigan ties, noting, “Crosby spent part of his childhood in Michigan and played at Eastern Michigan. If he’s not with the Raiders, Detroit is an ideal match. It may be unlikely, but there’s a slim possibility before the trade deadline.”
Crosby, however, has pushed back against leaving Vegas. In the October 22 episode of his podcast, “The Rush with Maxx Crosby,” he stated, “I want to be [in Las Vegas]. I want to be silver and black.” He acknowledged, though, that “it’s a business” and he doesn’t have “100% control” over his future.
Crosby signed a four-year, $94 million contract with the Raiders in 2022, with an annual salary of $23.5 million. Drafted in the fourth round in 2019, he’s been a Raider since.
