In Week 8, the Cleveland Browns enjoyed an exciting victory over the Baltimore Ravens, edging them out 29-24. This win came under Jameis Winston, who stepped up for his first 2024 start, filling in for Deshaun Watson, sidelined for the season with an Achilles injury.

The Browns, currently 2-6, have a challenging road to the playoffs, yet the AFC’s struggles keep their chances alive. This win complicates their decisions leading to the NFL’s November 5 trade deadline. Cleveland has tradeable assets, but it’s unclear if they’ll make a move.

If they aim for high returns, the Browns could trade Myles Garrett. Although trading the former Defensive Player of the Year has its drawbacks, multiple first-round picks are tempting.

Proposed Garrett Trade with the Detroit Lions

A hypothetical trade suggested by Alex Kay of Bleacher Report involves sending Garrett to the Detroit Lions in exchange for a substantial package.

The proposed trade would involve the Browns receiving: a 2025 first-round pick, a 2026 first-round pick, and a conditional 2026 third-round pick, which could turn into a first-round pick if Detroit reaches the Super Bowl.

The Lions would receive: Garrett.

“The Detroit Lions were hit hard when Aidan Hutchinson was ruled out for the season. While there’s speculation Hutchinson might recover by Super Bowl LIX, reaching the playoffs will be tough without him…

“Acquiring Myles Garrett would allow Detroit to continue dominating on defense and create a powerful pass-rushing duo when Hutchinson returns. While the Lions would sacrifice future picks to bring him in, Garrett’s presence would nearly ensure Detroit’s defense ranks among the best in 2024,” Kay wrote on October 22. “It’s a worthwhile risk with the Lombardi Trophy within reach, and the Lions could even add a conditional Day 2 pick for a Super Bowl appearance.”

Garrett’s Potential Impact for Detroit

The Detroit Lions are currently in a much better position than the Browns, sitting at 6-1 and leading both the NFC North and the NFC overall.

With Hutchinson out, finding a replacement of his caliber is challenging. However, Garrett, one of the NFL’s top defensive talents, could fill that role.

Garrett addressed trade rumors ahead of Week 8, saying, “I’ll be playing here,” during an October 25 press conference.

The Browns ultimately control his future, but Garrett’s preference is to stay in Cleveland.
