Fans have reacted quickly to reports that Detroit police are conducting an internal investigation to determine why Lions WR Jameson Williams was not arrested after a gun was discovered during a traffic stop.

Reactions were immediate following the 7 News Detroit report, which stated that Detroit police are investigating why Lions WR Jameson Williams avoided arrest after a gun was found beneath his seat. Police have sent a warrant request to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s office for further review.

Fans expressed disappointment but also support for the 23-year-old wide receiver. In a city deeply passionate about the Lions, news about star players spreads rapidly.

“Obviously, he’s a key player, and we need him for our Super Bowl run,” said Lions fan Chase Chapman from White Lake.

Williams is having his best season in his third year with the Lions but is currently serving a 2-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy. He also faced a 4-game suspension last season for a gambling policy violation. Now fans worry he could face felony charges for concealing a weapon.

“It feels like it’s been one thing after another,” Chapman added. “But I still believe in him; we’ve seen his progress.”

“I think patience is needed—he’s still growing,” said Lions fan Aaron Lowery from Detroit. “But his chances are running out.”

The investigation also seeks to determine if Williams received any special treatment due to his status as a star player, a point fans are reacting to as well.

“Just because you’re an athlete with a certain status doesn’t mean you avoid penalties,” said Detroit fan Vincent Richardson.

Though fans have reacted strongly, they are hopeful Williams can resolve the issue and keep himself out of trouble during the Lions’ Super Bowl push.

“I believe in our legal system and in Williams’ character. He’s come a long way since joining the team,” Chapman noted.

“Give him another chance—he’s a big help to the team,” added Lowery.
