Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff shared a brief, four-word response regarding the recent issues involving wide receiver Jameson Williams.
The Detroit Lions are having one of their strongest seasons yet and are focused on their Super Bowl journey despite the recent Jameson Williams drama.
Williams, one of the Lions’ standout receivers, might face a third NFL suspension after a traffic stop where a concealed weapon was reportedly found under his seat while he was with his brother, per Ross Jones of WXYZ Detroit on October 29.
The report mentions that the police are investigating why Williams wasn’t detained after the incident, noting that although he was initially going to be held for carrying a concealed weapon, he was ultimately released.
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has now commented on the latest Williams incident.
Jared Goff Addresses Jameson Williams
On Wednesday, October 30, Goff was asked during a press conference about the recent incident involving Williams and gave his view.
“He’s fine. We’re good,” Goff responded.
He added that he hasn’t “said anything to him.”
Detroit Lions head coach also seems to stand by Williams.
“I judge people by what’s in their heart, and I know what this kid’s made of, and he’s worth supporting,” Campbell said during a Wednesday press conference about the situation. “He’ll learn and grow from this, and he’ll come out stronger.”
As for the investigation, the Detroit Police Department released a statement on October 29 to the Detroit News, saying, “This investigation is ongoing, and we are actively pursuing new information.
We approach every case seriously, especially when new details arise, and we are committed to acting swiftly and transparently. When confirmed, new facts guide our decision-making. No one in Detroit is above the law. Anyone who commits a crime will be held accountable, regardless of position or status.”
Jameson Williams Urged to ‘Honor Lions’ Trust’ in Him
In an October 31 article, Max DeMara of SideLion Report argued that Williams needs to “wake up quickly” to fulfill his potential and “honor the Lions’ trust” in him.
“Coach Dan Campbell is dedicated to his players, and as long as they meet him halfway, he’ll do all he can to support them,” DeMara wrote.
He added, “Campbell has repeatedly defended Williams, backing both his abilities and character, even as fans question them given ongoing issues. With seasoned pros like Amon-Ra St. Brown and Kalif Raymond in the receiver room, the contrast is becoming more noticeable.”
Thus, “It’s time for Williams to mature and appreciate the faith Campbell has shown, as well as the loyalty of the city, fans, and franchise who have supported him through these early struggles,” DeMara said. “Otherwise, this may end up as a wasted opportunity. Only Williams can determine what happens next.”
