Kelly Stafford describes herself and her husband, former Detroit Lions and current Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, as “complete opposites.”

Recently, Kelly Stafford, wife of former Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, sparked attention for her critique of Taylor Swift’s impact on the NFL, shortly before dressing as Swift for Halloween.

On the latest episode of “The Morning After” podcast, Kelly Stafford expressed frustration over the focus on the Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce’s girlfriend, Taylor Swift, during games.

“I’ve never said I didn’t like Taylor Swift — ever,” Stafford explained. “But I did feel a bit fed up with the NFL’s coverage of her relationship with Kelce last year. And it’s not something she controls, but it wore on me.”

Despite her mixed feelings about Swift’s frequent appearance on NFL broadcasts, Kelly Stafford remains a fan and even honored Swift’s popular relationship with her Halloween costume this year.

Kelly Stafford Thinks Taylor Swift ‘Overshadows’ the Games

Kelly Stafford admitted to feeling “jealous” over the attention Swift received, noting how the singer occasionally overshadowed the games. Swift was often shown during Chiefs broadcasts last season and through the team’s Super Bowl journey.

“It was a smart business choice for the NFL, but I felt it took focus away from the games,” she said. “That’s what bothered me. I felt a little envious because football seemed secondary. I may have let jealousy get to me.”

That envy hasn’t dulled Kelly Stafford’s support for the singer. She and Matthew dressed as Swift and Kelce from their U.S. Open visit on Halloween, while their daughters wore Swift-inspired outfits from her Eras Tour. Kelly Stafford shared a family photo on Instagram on Nov. 1.

Kelly Stafford’s Connection to Detroit

Though Kelly and Matthew Stafford moved to Los Angeles after his 2021 trade to the Rams, they still feel connected to Detroit. In a letter shared before the Rams faced the Lions in this season’s opener, Kelly Stafford admitted the move was tough.

“I’d love to say leaving here was easy, like I was supposed to move on, but I can’t,” she wrote. “Detroit still holds my heart, despite my efforts to move on. It’s becoming clearer to me each day.”

Stafford also expressed her admiration for Detroit, saying she respected its resilient spirit.

“This city has shaped me in so many ways, and while my parents taught me core values, Detroit helped keep them strong,” she said. “It’s easy when surrounded by people who embody this city.”
