Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is expected to be placed on injured reserve after suffering a hamstring injury in the team’s recent loss to the Atlanta Falcons. According to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, the move would sideline Prescott for at least four games, with the earliest return possible during a “Monday Night Football” game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1. Since Prescott was drafted in 2016, the Cowboys have a solid record of 76-46 with him at the helm, but are just 9-8 with any other quarterback. In Prescott’s absence, Cooper Rush will start, with Trey Lance serving as the backup.

Prescott’s injury is the latest in a series of setbacks for the quarterback, who has previously missed games due to a fractured ankle, a calf strain, and a broken thumb. In 2022, Rush stepped in as the starting quarterback when Prescott was sidelined with the thumb injury, leading the team to a 4-1 record. However, the offense struggled to score, failing to surpass 25 points in any of Rush’s starts. The defense, on the other hand, played a crucial role in the team’s success, holding opponents to fewer than 20 points in all but one of those games.

Meanwhile, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes experienced a scare during his team’s victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, injuring his left ankle in the fourth quarter. Mahomes initially feared the worst, especially as it was the same ankle he had injured the previous week. However, he was able to remain in the game and lead the Chiefs to a 30-24 overtime win. Mahomes was later examined by doctors, and despite the pain, he confirmed he would be ready for the Chiefs’ next game against the Denver Broncos.

The injury occurred during a non-contact play as Mahomes was about to score a touchdown, when he awkwardly rolled his ankle while passing to running back Samaje Perine. Despite the scare, Mahomes remained resilient, stating he was not overly concerned because the injury was less severe than his previous ankle issue from the 2022 playoffs. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid initially attempted to pull Mahomes from the game, but the quarterback insisted on continuing after doctors cleared him to play
