Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant recently made a bold suggestion about the team’s coaching future. In a tweet posted on Tuesday, Bryant recommended that the Cowboys should consider hiring Kliff Kingsbury, the current offensive coordinator of the Washington Commanders, as their next head coach. Kingsbury, known for his innovative offensive schemes, previously served as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals from 2019 to 2022, though his tenure was marked by inconsistency.

Kingsbury is widely regarded as a talented offensive mind, particularly with his ability to develop young quarterbacks. Under his guidance, the Commanders’ rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels is enjoying a standout season, drawing comparisons to Offensive Rookie of the Year. Kingsbury’s coaching experience also includes developing Kyler Murray into a two-time Pro Bowler during his time with the Cardinals, as well as mentoring Caleb Williams during his brief stint at USC as a senior offensive analyst.

Currently, under Kingsbury’s leadership, the Washington offense has flourished, ranking third in total yards (392.0), second in rushing yards (163.9), and third in points scored (29.2). These statistics stand in stark contrast to the Cowboys’ offensive struggles this season, as Dallas has faced criticism for its performance under head coach Mike McCarthy. Despite having a strong defense, the Cowboys’ offense ranks 31st in rushing yards per game (82) and 20th in scoring (21.4 points per game), a significant drop from last year’s league-leading 29.9 points per game.

The Cowboys are currently 3-5 on the season, and with McCarthy in the final year of his contract, speculation about his future is growing. While McCarthy remains in charge for now, Bryant’s tweet has sparked further conversation about the direction of the team’s coaching staff. With the Cowboys underperforming offensively, many are questioning whether a change is needed, and Bryant’s endorsement of Kingsbury has added fuel to that ongoing debate
