On Thursday, the Baltimore Ravens revealed they are releasing defensive end Yannick Ngakoue, according to Adam Schefter.

Schefter reported that “the Ravens hope to re-sign him to their practice squad if he clears waivers.” This decision has drawn interest from several teams around the league, notably the Detroit Lions.

Lions’ Waiver Advantage

Ngakoue’s Season Stats

This season, Ngakoue has managed 5 tackles and 1.5 sacks over just 87 defensive snaps. Known at times as one of the NFL’s premier pass rushers, his production this season has fallen short of previous standards.

The 29-year-old defensive end is looking to reignite his career, and a strong team like the Lions could provide a promising new path for him.

Compensating for Hutchinson’s Absence

With Aidan Hutchinson likely sidelined for the season due to a leg injury, the Lions’ pass-rushing abilities have taken a hit. Ngakoue could step in to fill that gap, adding depth and experience to a defensive line eager to stay competitive. Pairing Ngakoue with Smith on the edge could form a potent duo, boosting the Lions’ ability to pressure quarterbacks in critical situations.

As the Lions push toward the playoffs, securing a player with Ngakoue’s background and potential could prove to be a valuable addition. With the waiver deadline approaching, the Lions’ front office will need to determine if Ngakoue aligns with their defensive approach and if claiming him supports their broader goals.
