In Week 10, Sunday Night Football will return to primetime as the Detroit Lions (7-1) travel to Houston to play the Texans (6-3). The top teams from each of the NFL’s two conferences will square off in this matchup, and both have hopes of winning the Super Bowl.Since their victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2, the Lions have not suffered a defeat. They have essentially destroyed their opponents ever then, making them appear to be the NFL’s best team. They even defeated the Green Bay Packers by ten points at Lambeau Field last weekend, handily defeating their NFC North foe.
In the meantime, the Texans suffered their second defeat in the previous three games as they lost to the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football. As Houston gets ready to play Detroit, it will be interesting to watch how the additional rest impacts them.
This season, Dan Campbell and his Lions have already demonstrated their ability to win both at home and away. Therefore, it is unlikely that playing away from Ford Field will have a significant impact. In light of Detroit is desire to continue winning, let us make some audacious predictions for the Lions’ Week 10 matchup with the Texans.
Jared Goff throws for 210 yards, scores a touchdown, and keeps the league’s best completion percentage.
Jared Goff once again showed off his remarkable precision in last week’s victory over the Packers. More significantly, Goff maintained his league-high completion percentage of 74.9% by completing exactly 18 passes for the fifth time this season.
It is important to remember, though, that the Texans’ defense holds opponents to a mere 54.8% completion rate, which puts them first in the league. As we all know, the Lions offense is among the best in the league and is not just dependent on Goff’s throwing. Several times this season, their running game has taken over. Goff is expected to have a successful day, adding at least one touchdown throw and keeping his league-high completion % despite the Texans’ formidable defense. Not to mention maintain
CJ Stroud is sacked four times by the Lions defense.
Second-year edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson suffered a season-ending injury, but the Lions handled it far better than anticipated. They did, however, acquire Za’Darius Smith from the Browns prior to the trade deadline. The Lions will return to their pass rush in Week 11, but it is likely that he will not play much if at all against the Texans. The Lions did not record a single sack this season until last week. A season-high eight sacks of CJ Stroud against the Jets were the result of the Texans’ offensive line’s worse performance to date. We will assume the Lions rack up at least four sacks, so they may be feasting come Sunday night.
