‘ This is what great teams do,’ says Dan Campbell after Lions thrilling victory over Texans
Dan Campbell likely had a different post-game speech planned.
After the Detroit Lions’ thrilling 26-23 win over the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium, the head coach was filled with excitement in the locker room.
“Man, that’s what resiliency looks like,” Campbell said. “You guys just kept pushing, right? We did what was necessary. We waited for our moment.”
On the Lions’ defense, Campbell remarked: “That was outstanding, guys. We knew it was only a matter of time.”
On the offense, he added: “We scored when it counted. (Kicker Jake) Bates, that was absolutely huge, alright?”
“And let me say it again. This is what great teams do. This is what great teams do,” Campbell emphasized. “Even when it’s not your best day, you make it happen. You find a way, man. You make it happen.”
“That’s exactly what you did today,” he concluded.
Campbell awarded three game balls: one to defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, one to cornerback Carlton Davis III, and the final one to Bates.
As always, Campbell asked Goff to close things out.
“If that isn’t a f—–g lesson, it’s not over till it’s over, that’s what it is, boys. Way to f—–g fight all day,” Goff said. “We’re f—–g different than the rest of the league, alright? Great job.”
“Win on three. One. Two. Three.”
Team: “Win.”
It looks like Bates might help me win my fantasy matchup this week.
The Lions next face the Jacksonville Jaguars at 1 p.m. Sunday at Ford Field.
