The Keys Jacksonville Must Address to Pull Off an Upset

Heading into Week 11, the Jacksonville Jaguars find themselves facing a tough Detroit Lions team with momentum on its side. For Jacksonville, who enters the game as a 13-point underdog, there are critical areas they need to address to stay competitive. Here are the top three adjustments they should focus on.

1. Maximize Mac Jones with a Strong Play-Action Game

While Trevor Lawrence remains sidelined, Mac Jones has struggled to fill the QB void, showing signs of hesitation and inconsistency. The Jaguars’ coaching staff could help Jones play more comfortably by implementing play-action strategies. Jones excelled with run-pass options (RPO) in college, and more play-action snaps could help create a balanced offense, giving him a chance to thrive.

2. Fix Pass Protection Issues in the Backfield

The Jaguars’ pass protection has been shaky, particularly with their running backs allowing pressures in recent games. Tank Bigsby and Travis Etienne must improve their protection skills, as Detroit’s defensive line will present another big challenge. To avoid being overpowered, Jacksonville’s coaches must emphasize better blocking techniques for the backs and prepare for Detroit’s aggressive front.

3. Increase Tank Bigsby’s Involvement

After some explosive performances early in the season, Bigsby’s role has surprisingly decreased in recent weeks. Given his consistent yardage gains, Jacksonville would benefit from giving him more carries to establish a strong ground game. With Jones’s recent struggles in the air, a greater reliance on Bigsby could open up the playbook and keep Detroit’s defense on its toes.

With a strategic focus on these three areas, the Jaguars can make a legitimate push to challenge the Lions and potentially upset their favored opponent in Week 11.
