In ESPN’s latest 2025 mock draft, Matt Miller projects the Lions to pick at No. 31 and select Arizona guard Jonah Savaiinaea.
Miller highlights Detroit’s potential need on the interior line, especially with Jonah Jackson departing in free agency and uncertainty surrounding Frank Ragnow’s durability. Savaiinaea, who plays tackle for Arizona, is projected as a guard in the NFL.
A powerful run blocker with improved pass protection skills, he has allowed no sacks and committed just two penalties this season.
At 336 pounds, he combines power with quickness, making him a potential asset.
Miller didn’t mention Kevin Zeitler’s strong performance this season as Jackson’s replacement, but the veteran is on a one-year deal and will turn 35 in March.
The Lions may need to address the position soon.
Savaiinaea, a junior, has experience at tackle and guard, with scouts envisioning him as a guard at the next level. Pairing him with Penei Sewell on Detroit’s right side would be an intriguing long-term solution.
