Matt Eberflus experienced a disastrous day.

His firing came less than 24 hours after a puzzling display of clock management cost the Bears a chance to win against the Detroit Lions.

Making matters worse, Eberflus defended his handling of the final moments during his post-game press conference, leading many to predict his firing was imminent.

Indeed, it was. However, the Bears added to the embarrassment by allowing Eberflus to conduct his Friday morning press conference, during which he spoke about preparing for the upcoming game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Minutes after stepping off the stage, Eberflus was no longer the Bears’ coach. It marks the first time in franchise history that the team has dismissed a coach mid-season.

Once the news broke, the internet erupted, mercilessly mocking Eberflus.

Thomas Brown, promoted to offensive coordinator just two weeks ago following Shane Waldron’s departure, will now serve as the Bears’ interim head coach.
