Veteran defensive back Jamal Adams was urged by his family to promptly reach out to Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.

After being released by the Tennessee Titans in October, the 29-year-old sought a chance to join a team poised for playoff success.

Adams cherishes memories of Glenn from a Pro Day workout led by the then-Saints defensive backs coach before Adams was selected sixth overall in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Facing numerous injuries this season, Glenn decided it was the right time to contact the former three-time Pro Bowler.

Adams made his Lions practice debut Monday, sporting No. 25. He participated in linebacker drills during the media-viewable portion, showcasing his adaptability.

“There’s no better opportunity, man,” Adams shared. “Being home in Dallas and training, when A.G. called, it was an easy decision.”

Discussing the Lions’ performance, Adams remarked, “We’ve been dominating. I’m grateful to join a team on a roll. I’m here to contribute however I can.”

As a former All-Pro safety, Adams’ physicality allows him to transition to linebacker, providing much-needed versatility for the injury-stricken defense.

“It’s something I considered,” Adams explained. “Getting a shot with a winning, first-class organization was a dream come true when the call came.”

Head coach Dan Campbell noted that Monday’s full-speed practice would help determine if Adams would be elevated for the Packers game.

“We brought in him, Kwon Alexander, Myles Adams, and Jonah Williams,” Campbell told 97.1 The Ticket. “We’ll evaluate who fits best. Today will reveal a lot about Jamal’s readiness.”

Adams’ impression of Campbell echoed sentiments often shared by new Lions players.

“He’s passionate and energetic,” Adams said. “He’s the kind of coach you’d do anything for. It’s no surprise Detroit’s doing so well. I’m thrilled to be here.”
