The Denver Broncos have decided to part ways with veteran receiver Josh Reynolds.
Reports confirm that the 29-year-old wideout is no longer in the Broncos’ long-term plans and has been released.
Head coach Sean Payton seems focused on providing more chances to younger receivers on the roster, such as Devaughn Vele, Marvin Mims, and Troy Franklin.
Reynolds had been on injured reserve since Week 5, and the team faced a deadline to determine his future. Without being cut or activated by December 4, he would have been required to remain on injured reserve for the remainder of the 2024 season.
This decision allows Reynolds the chance to join another team and potentially contribute during the final month of the regular season or in the playoffs if signed by a contender.
Reynolds had joined the Broncos this offseason on a two-year, $9 million deal after more than two seasons with the Detroit Lions. The Broncos were aiming to improve after their 8-9 record in 2023.
However, his time in Denver was not particularly successful. He appeared in only five games, recording 12 catches for 183 yards and one touchdown.
During his tenure in Detroit, Reynolds was reliable for extending drives and had strong chemistry with quarterback Jared Goff.
Unfortunately, his final game with the Lions left fans disappointed. In the NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers, Reynolds had several costly drops as the Lions squandered a 17-point halftime lead and lost.
Meanwhile, former Broncos receiver Tim Patrick has thrived in Detroit’s offense this season, building a solid connection with the 30-year-old Goff.
