Dan Campbell is on the verge of becoming one of the Detroit Lions’ most celebrated head coaches.

Since his arrival, he has transformed the team into a Super Bowl contender and currently holds the top spot in the NFC standings. While he has succeeded, he wasn’t the first to try.

Before Campbell, the Lions hired Matt Patricia, a prominent figure from Bill Belichick’s coaching tree. On the December 5 episode of Good Morning Football, Patricia shared his thoughts on Campbell’s success.

“Credit to Dan Campbell for getting the entire building to follow his vision, believe in the message, and work hard,” Patricia said. He added, “In the NFL, a little success can ignite belief. Sometimes, all it takes is that spark of confidence.”

Patricia’s remarks imply that his Lions teams lacked that crucial belief, as evidenced by their 14-33-1 record during his tenure. In contrast, Campbell has led the Lions to a 35-27 record, including an impressive 32-14 streak over the past three seasons.

Lions Brace for Challenging Finish to 2024

With an 11-1 record, the Lions enter December in dominant form. However, a grueling schedule awaits as they face several formidable opponents.

First, they take on the 9-3 Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football in a pivotal division matchup. Next, they face Josh Allen and the Bills, the only team to defeat Patrick Mahomes in 2024. After that, they meet a Chicago Bears squad fighting for relevance.

To close the season, the Lions face the San Francisco 49ers, who eliminated them from the playoffs last year, followed by an away game against the Minnesota Vikings.
