New Detroit Lions defensive end Za’Darius Smith stepped into Thursday night’s NFC North matchup against the Green Bay Packers seeking revenge after spending three seasons with the team in green and gold.
Smith wasted no time fulfilling his mission, making an impact on the Packers’ first offensive play. As Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love dropped back to pass, Smith burst in from the side and sacked Love for a seven-yard loss.
Smith’s excitement was unmistakable after the play. Rising to his feet, he crawled on the ground before flexing in celebration, igniting the Ford Field crowd even further. The sack marked Smith’s eighth of the 2024 season.

Smith joined the Lions via a trade from the Cleveland Browns on Nov. 5, having played nine games with Cleveland this season. The veteran defender has now made the rounds in the NFC North, having previously starred for the Packers from 2019 to 2021 and the Minnesota Vikings in 2022.
Time will tell what else this “revenge” game holds for Smith.
