The Green Bay Packers missed a crucial chance to make progress in the NFC North Division on Thursday night as they aimed to secure thei first win of the season against the Detroit Lions in Detroit.
Despite their efforts, the Packers fell short against Jared Goff’s offense and a weakened Lions defense, losing to their division rivals for the sixth time in seven matchups, with a final score of 34-31.
After the game, Packers quarterback Jordan Love shared his candid thoughts on the Lions’ defense.
When asked about his team’s performance, Love expressed that the Packers hindered themselves, despite what he considered a lackluster showing from coach Aaron Glenn’s Lions defense.
“We knew that, especially offensively, (the first half) wasn’t our best half,” Love said, emphasizing that Green Bay needed to focus on execution and playmaking.
“It wasn’t like they were doing anything that was really stopping us,” Love remarked about the Lions’ defense during the postgame press conference.
“I think we were just hurting ourselves and not executing.”
The Packers finished the game with 298 yards compared to the Lions’ 391.
Love acknowledged that his offense must improve to compete with teams like Detroit, especially in high-scoring games such as Thursday’s.
“So, the message was to just go and find a way to make plays, and continue to put up points, because it just didn’t feel good, you know, putting up seven points and having some of the woes we had early, but guys responded,” Love concluded.
