Following the Detroit Lions’ thrilling 34-31 victory over the Green Bay Packers, head coach Dan Campbell took the opportunity to reflect on the team’s remarkable performance, which extended their winning streak to 11 games, a franchise record. With their sights set on securing the NFC’s top playoff seed and a potential Super Bowl run, Campbell’s postgame comments showcased the teamwork, grit, and leadership propelling this Lions squad to new heights.

Dan Campbell’s Praise for the Team’s Effort

Campbell was full of praise for his players and coaching staff after the win, emphasizing how everyone contributed to the team’s success.

“Man, what a win. That was a hell of a job by our players and coaches, a total team effort,” Campbell said. “We had a plan going in, and we knew the style of play we needed. We wanted our defense to just go out there and cut it loose—and that’s exactly what they did. They played with effort and finish. Big credit to Aaron Glenn and the whole defense—they laid it all out there. We call them the ‘Northern Savages,’ because they storm in, ready for anything, and they showed it today.”

The “Northern Savages” Defense

Campbell introduced a new nickname for the defense, calling them the “Northern Savages,” a nod to their tough, relentless style. In previous years, the Lions’ defense had often been a weak point, but this season, they’ve stepped up and played with aggression and intensity.

“Our defense really cut it loose today,” Campbell continued. “They just went out and played. It’s exactly what we needed. Huge credit to AG (Defensive Coordinator Aaron Glenn) and the entire defensive unit. They didn’t just play hard, they played smart, and they were physical.”

Offense Answering the Call

While the defense stood tall, the offense also delivered when it mattered most. Campbell acknowledged that the offensive unit had to carry a bit more weight in this contest, and they did so admirably.

“Our offense, they knew they had to step up, and they did. Jared (Goff) was steady, Tim (Patrick) made some key catches, and Sam (LaPorta) continues to impress. It was a total team effort on offense, with everyone doing their part to make big plays when we needed them.”

The Lions’ offense showed its depth, with Goff orchestrating the game plan and players like Patrick and LaPorta stepping up in crucial moments to keep the momentum going.

A Focus on Mental Toughness

One of the key takeaways from Campbell’s comments was the team’s mental toughness. Despite outside narratives questioning their resilience, the Lions have continued to show their strength week after week.

“We don’t talk about being tough. We don’t need to talk about resilience,” Campbell said. “We live it. We’ve been proving it all season. We don’t make excuses, we just find a way to win. And that’s exactly what we did again today.”

For Campbell, this victory wasn’t just about another win—it was a testament to the Lions’ unyielding mindset and determination to keep pushing through adversity.

Pursuit of the No. 1 Seed

With the Lions now sitting at a 12-1 record, they’re firmly in the race for the NFC’s top playoff spot. Campbell’s words underscored the team’s laser focus on achieving their ultimate goal: a Super Bowl title.

“We’re not here to talk about being resilient or tough,” Campbell reiterated. “We just go out and prove it, week in and week out. Our guys know what’s at stake, and they show up ready to battle.”

Championship Mentality

As Detroit eyes the playoffs, the team’s mentality remains grounded in hard work, unity, and an unwavering desire to improve. Campbell’s leadership continues to be a driving force behind the Lions’ success, and with each victory, they are proving that they are a legitimate contender for the Super Bowl.

“I’m proud of these guys,” Campbell said. “They continue to find a way to win, no matter the circumstances. No excuses, just results.”
