Chase Herbstreit, the youngest son of ESPN analyst and former Ohio State QB Kirk Herbstrei, has committed to the University of Michigan as a quarterback prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, as reported by On3 Sports.
Chase, whose father is ESPN’s lead college football and Amazon Prime NFL analyst, made the decision after excelling in high school football. He moved from Nashville to Cincinnati as a ninth grader and quickly became the starting quarterback for Ohio’s St. Xavier. Taking over midway through his sophomore year, he led the team to two critical regular-season victories and a playoff win.
“His competitive spirit and intangibles are special,” Kirk told On3. “Whether it’s ping-pong, golf, or hoops, he’s the guy you don’t want to face because he’ll find a way to win—or insist on playing again. That mentality is key for a quarterback.”
Chase’s commitment to Michigan adds to the family’s football legacy, with his father’s history at Ohio State and his own emergence as a promising quarterback. Chase’s competitiveness and talent position him for a bright future in Ann Arbor.
