Pressure continues to build on Mike McCarthy, but the Dallas Cowboys are expected to allow him to finish out the 2024 season before making any decisions about his future with the team, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
Rapoport mentioned, “The Cowboys will have a major decision to make after the season, partly depending on how things unfold. The question will be whether to retain McCarthy, recognizing his capabilities as a coach, even if the team doesn’t achieve the desired results this year. The season needs to play out before any conclusions are made.”
While Cowboys fans have voiced frustration with McCarthy over the years, team owner Jerry Jones has publicly expressed support for the coach. Additionally, key players like Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons have also backed McCarthy.
Now, in his fifth year with the Cowboys, McCarthy is at risk of his second losing season, following a 6-10 record in his first year. Though the Cowboys have had three 12-5 seasons under him, they’ve failed to progress beyond the divisional round of the playoffs.
