Micah Parsons was visibly emotional following the Dallas Cowboys’ tough loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night, and he attributed his reaction to his intense competitiveness.

The Cowboys’ chance to win slipped away due to a costly special teams error, and Parsons was seen upset on the bench. He then walked off the field as the clock ran out, skipping the post-game handshake and interaction with the Bengals players.

On Tuesday, Parsons explained his behavior on his podcast.

“I don’t think anyone is more competitive than I am,” Parsons said. “It really hurts because I promised Cowboys Nation we’d make a serious run. I was doing everything I could to make that happen. I wanted to help my teammates get to that point.”

He went on to express how the loss affected him deeply. “The fact that we lost a game we could have won hit me hard… it just took all the energy out of me,” he admitted.

Parsons also addressed why he left the field without greeting the Bengals players. “I’m stuck either way,” he explained. “If I had gone over there and acted all friendly with them after a loss like that, people would’ve been upset.”
