Despite their loss to the NFC North-leading Detroit Lions, the Green Bay Packers remain in a strong position with a 9-4 record and are on track to secure a playoff spot. Currently, they occupy the No. 6 seed in the NFC, just ahead of the Washington Commanders (8-5) and behind the Minnesota Vikings (11-2).
If the Packers were to lose to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night Football, they would drop to 9-5. Should the Commanders win their game against the New Orleans Saints, they would also reach 9-5, pushing Green Bay down to the No. 7 seed, based on having a worse conference record. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Rams are also close behind at No. 8, meaning that if they win, the Packers could find themselves just one game ahead of the Rams after Week 15.
Despite the possible setback, the Packers still have an opportunity to clinch a playoff berth in Week 15. To make that happen, Green Bay would need to defeat the Seahawks. By the time the Packers play, other games will have already unfolded, but a victory against Seattle would be their first crucial step toward the postseason.
After securing a win over the Seahawks, the Packers would need the Atlanta Falcons to either lose or tie against the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday Night Football. Although the Raiders are one of the worst teams in the league, and the Falcons might be starting their third-string quarterback, this scenario still remains unlikely.
In addition to the Falcons’ result, the Packers would need the Rams and 49ers game on Thursday Night Football to end in a tie. This would be a highly improbable outcome, but it is one of the requirements for Green Bay to secure their playoff spot by the end of Week 15.
With the perfect sequence of events, including a tie between the Rams and 49ers, the Packers could clinch their playoff berth early. However, this is far from guaranteed, and the Packers’ best option is to focus on their own game and get a win against Seattle.
The most realistic goal for the Packers is to beat the Seahawks on Sunday night and hold onto the No. 6 seed. While the ideal scenario involving other teams’ results is possible, Green Bay’s immediate focus should be on securing a victory to maintain control of their playoff destiny.
