The Detroit Lions are currently leading the NFC North and the NFC, positioning themselves for a potential home-field advantage in the 2024-2025 NFL Playoffs. Despite facing a series of injuries, including to running back David Montgomery, coach Dan Campbell’s squad remains strong. Montgomery, alongside Jahmyr Gibbs, forms the dynamic “Sonic and Knuckles” duo, and both were recently honored by the Pro Football Hall of Fame. This week, the Hall unveiled a display in Canton, Ohio, featuring a signed football to commemorate the milestone they reached together.
The two Lions players achieved an NFL first when they became the first teammates in league history to each surpass 2,000 scrimmage yards and 20 touchdowns in their first 25 games (spanning 2023 to 2024). The Pro Football Hall of Fame shared the news on social media, highlighting their achievement. Fans have expressed their excitement about the duo’s recognition, with some playfully referencing the famous video game characters, Sonic and Knuckles.
Unfortunately, Montgomery will be sidelined for a while due to a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury. Instead of opting for surgery, he plans to rehabilitate with the hope of returning to the field in time for the playoffs.
