The Detroit Lions handed the Chicago Bears their ninth consecutive loss with a 34-17 victory at Soldier Field on Sunday, highlighted by the chants of “Jar-ed Goff!” from the Lions’ fans, who were elated by their quarterback’s stellar performance. Despite a significant number of injuries, the Lions demonstrated qualities the Bears sorely lack. They capitalized on the Bears’ mistakes, including two fumbles in the first quarter, to build a commanding 20-0 lead early and never looked back.

Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams passed for 334 yards and two touchdowns, including several big plays with veteran receiver Keenan Allen, who had a season-high nine receptions for 141 yards. However, the Bears’ offense couldn’t overcome the mistakes made earlier in the game, which included 10 penalties and turnovers. The Bears have now suffered their second-longest losing streak in team history, a stark contrast to the Lions, who are building towards the playoffs.

In a pivotal moment, Williams and receiver Rome Odunze mishandled a handoff in the first quarter, leading to a turnover and setting up the Lions’ offense at the Bears’ 36-yard line. Jahmyr Gibbs capitalized with a 23-yard rush and a 1-yard touchdown, making it 10-0. The Bears were unable to recover from these errors. A second fumble from Odunze handed the Lions another short field, and a field goal gave them a 13-0 lead.

Later, a brilliant 82-yard touchdown pass from Goff to Jameson Williams further extended Detroit’s advantage to 20-0. Goff praised Williams’ speed and said their connection is continuing to improve, especially on deep passes.

In contrast, the Bears’ focus is on rebuilding for the future, particularly the 2025 season, as they navigate a season full of mistakes and injuries. Williams expressed that every play is a learning experience for both himself and the team.

Additionally, the Bears suffered injuries to key players, including left tackle Braxton Jones, who appeared to suffer a serious ankle injury, and left guard Teven Jenkins, who left the game with a calf issue. Both injuries were added concerns for a Bears team already struggling on the field.
