The Dallas Cowboys’ offensive line has faced significant challenges throughout the season, struggling with both the run game and pass protection. While Dak Prescott’s hamstring injury was unrelated to the offensive line’s performance, it’s clear that the line must improve to give him more time and space in the pocket next season. In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Cowboys selected offensive linemen Tyler Guyton in the first round and Cooper Beebe in the third, adding youthful talent to an aging line, highlighted by Zack Martin. This mix of youth and experience has led to inconsistent play, with some critics prematurely labeling Guyton as a “bust.” However, Cowboys insider Mike Fisher from CowboysCountry.com believes there’s a way to fix the line quickly, with up to $100 million in salary cap space available in March 2025. Fisher identifies three potential free-agent targets: Kansas City Chiefs guard Trey Smith, Minnesota Vikings tackle Cam Robinson, and Baltimore Ravens tackle Ronnie Stanley.
While Fisher doesn’t believe it’s fair to label Guyton a bust, he suggests the team could move him to right tackle, potentially replacing Terence Steele. This would free up the opportunity to sign a high-caliber free agent to bolster the line. The Cowboys’ roster will have various needs to address in the offseason, including evaluating the offensive line, especially with the possibility of Martin retiring. Robinson and Smith could command salaries of around $18 million per year, while Stanley, being older, might be available for a more affordable $8 million per year. Regardless, these options offer a chance for the Cowboys to strengthen their offensive line and ensure Prescott has the protection needed to compete against the NFL’s top defenses next season.
